Leaving UW-Madison? Pause to Think about Data Access

If you or someone you supervise is leaving or retiring, check out these helpful tips:

Leaving the University of Wisconsin-Madison (KB 78565), gives specific guidance for each role and situation. Learn when account access is turned off, decide how to back up and transfer data, and preserve access for your colleagues.

Transfer Box files, Google docs, Canvas courses, and Qualtrics surveys to people or projects before departing. Think about embedded files; for example, if there are links to files or videos in a Canvas course, does the department also have access to those files?

Supervisors should verify that departing employees' access to unit-specific applications, project folders, etc., has been withdrawn and/or transferred.
