August Badger Data Network: Data Classification Initiative

Data classifications are necessary to secure and protect data in a predictable manner, consistent with the risk posed to the organization and to the individual.

Policy changes are underway at UW Madison. Starting in 2027, UW–Madison will begin relying on UW System policy 1031, Information Security: Data Classification, in order to streamline operations, strengthen compliance, and lower security risk without having a separate, university-level data classification policy.

Learn more about the Data Classification Initiative, charged with supporting this change and developing additional guidance and resources to aid in data management decisions. All are welcome to attend.
