Update: Data Classification Initiative

UW–Madison is updating how institutional data is classified. Starting January 1, 2027, the university will move to a three-level, risk-based model aligned with Universities of Wisconsin policy.

Aligning simplifies our data classification, reduces confusion, strengthens compliance, and lowers security risk. Supporting tools, training, and resources will make the transition smooth and sustainable.

Legislative Accountability Report

Each year, UW–Madison is required to submit reports to various government bodies, accreditors, and other organizations. DAPIR plays a role in the creation of many of these reports.

Since 2011, Wisconsin statutes have required UW–Madison to submit an annual Legislative Accountability Report to the State Legislature.

Planning to distribute an institutional survey this fall semester?

The Institutional Survey Review Committee (IRSC) requests submissions by September 30. While the committee will accept submissions beyond that date, approval may be contingent on other surveys in the field. Last spring, late submissions led to a high volume of surveys with overlapping time windows, resulting in low response rates.

The ISRC aims to enhance the quality of institutional survey data and increase response rates by monitoring survey volume, coordinating their timing, and reducing redundancies. Pre-survey considerations, review guidelines, and submission instructions are available.

If you are planning to conduct a survey prior to September 30, please submit as soon as possible.

Libraries offering R and Python fall workshops

This fall, the Libraries will provide introductory R and Python workshops. The workshops are free, open to all UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff, and are held via Zoom. Registration is required. Review the course outlines and complete your registration. If you have questions, contact Heather Shimon.
