Upcoming Trainings & Workshops
|
|
|
|
In this workshop, you’ll learn how deep learning works through hands-on exercises in computer vision and natural language processing (tokenization and word embeddings). You’ll train deep learning models from scratch, learning tools and tricks to achieve highly accurate results. You’ll also learn to leverage freely available, state-of-the-art pre-trained models to save time and get your deep learning application up and running quickly. The workshop takes place virtually on July 13-14, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (CT). For more information and to register ($10 for UW-Madison affiliates), visit the Fundamentals of Deep Learning Eventbrite page.
Virtual Data Publishing Workshop, Environmental Data Initiative
Learn about preparing your data and publishing in the EDI data repository at their annual workshop! Please contact EDI soon at info@edirepository.org if interested in participating, as there are only a few spots still available.
Workshops for UW-Affiliated Undergraduates Only, Data Science Hub
Students will learn fundamental data and computing skills using Python, R, SQL, and many more. These workshops are aimed towards Undergraduate students only. Registration required.

Data and Technology Advancement National Service Scholar Program, National Institutes of Health
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Data Science Strategy (ODSS) Data and Technology Advancement (DATA) National Service Scholar Program is seeking experienced data and computer scientists and engineers to tackle challenging biomedical data problems with the potential for substantial public health impact. Achieving this vision requires deep experience in, and knowledge of, data and computer sciences and related fields. To bring talented professionals with this necessary expertise to advance high-impact NIH programs, the ODSS created the DATA National Service Scholar Program. DATA Scholars will substantially optimize and accelerate data science in biomedicine to improve human health and well-being. Apply for the Data and Technology Advancement National Service Scholar Program by May 27.
Senior Data Science Fellow, UCSF Industry Documents Library
This fellowship will support a project to compare human-evaluated transcripts with computer generated transcripts for text and audiovisual materials in the IDL collections. Through tagging, human transcription, and computer-generated transcription, the team will assess how accuracy may differ between media or document types, and how and whether this difference is more or less pronounced in certain categories. On Campus
Bioinformatics Software Engineer, Attie Laboratory
The Attie Laboratory within the Biochemistry Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time position for a Bioinformatics Software Engineer. The laboratory performs large-scale genetic screens in mice to understand the relationship between genetic diversity and metabolic disease risk. They have a tight-knit team of career technicians and a Senior Scientist to lead this effort, which involves thousands of mice and hundreds of thousands of physiological and molecular measurements. Compiling the "big data" that derives from these studies, and integration with many orthogonal data repositories (e.g., human genetic studies) requires a high-level bioinformatics skills. For more information and to apply, visit the Bioinformatics Software Engineer position description.
