How big are global wildfires this year? ( site) Our World in Data, Global Wildfire Information System.
With climate change greatly affecting our planet, wildfires have become a more common occurrence. These are devastating to our natural areas and rural communities, and emphasize the larger climate issue at hand. This graph visualizes the amount of land burned over the course of the year, weeks 0-52. The trend has been fairly consistent over the previous ten years, however it is important to note the relatively fast rate in 2024.
