Save the Date! - HAQAST Showcase
Our next meeting, the HAQAST Showcase, is being planned for Tuesday, January 28th, 2025 at NASA Headquarters in Washington DC. This meeting will highlight success over the last four years, including increasing public engagement with NASA data, measuring health risks in unmonitored regions, and improving regulatory decision-making tools. Please sign up here if you would like more information once available. We hope to see you at the celebration of this generation of HAQAST!

Satellite-derived PM2.5 Data Supported the US EPA Revised Standard
Science Informed Heat Action Plan
HAQAST member Chris Uejio worked with the world's first chief heat resilience officer in Miami-Dade County, Florida support a more evidence-based policies in the Miami-Dade County's Heat Action Plan. Read more about this project here.
NO2 Indicator Integrated into EPA EJSCREEN
Nitrogen Dioxide (NO 2) from 2020 block group-level source data is now available in updated version of EJSCREEN. This is result of the efforts of the Satellite Data for Environmental Justice Team. Prior to the latest release, EJScreen included data on ozone and fine particulate matter pollution but not NO 2 pollution, and this update now include NO 2 from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) data. The dataset was developed by the George Washington University with collaborators from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, Oregon State University, and NASA. Learn more in the document here, and trainings and office hours are also available here.
Satellite Monitoring of Smoke and Fires in South America
Dr. Ana Prados organized an advanced satellite course with two universities in Bolivia, the Universidad Mayor de San Andres, and the Universidad Mayor de San Simon; and NOAA on use of satellite fire and aerosol products for air quality management in Bolivia and Peru. 30 attendees from government agencies, the private sector, and universities from both countries completed the multi-week course, which included outstanding group end-of course presentations. One student from the Peruvian Meteorological service recently reported that as a result of the course they have added satellite aerosols products to their service, to allow for continuous air pollution monitoring. Data
*NEW* MERRA-2 bias-corrected global hourly surface PM2.5 dataset
The MERRA-2 bias-corrected global hourly surface PM 2.5 dataset is now publicly available. This dataset, developed by HAQAST PIs Pawan Gupta and co-I Alqamah Sayeed, has been derived by using the machine learning method, convolutional neural network (CNN). The dataset covers the period from 2000 to the present and will be updated through the end of 2024. Please read more from the data release newsletter and data DOIs.
HAQAST Dataset Available - Gridded TROPOMI NO2 Data Available for Download
Gridded 1 x 1 km monthly, seasonal, and annual satellite TROPOMI NO2 data is available for download on the NASA portal. The dates range from May 2018-present and the area is the continental US.
Release of HAQAST Level 3 GLOBAL TROPOMI NO2 collections Version 2.4
The NASA Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC), and Principal Investigator Dan Goldberg of George Washington University, are pleased to release two Level 3 global TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) collections. More information can be found here.
Preliminary TEMPO Data Now Available
TEMPO Version 03 (V03) Beta Level 1, 2, and 3 data are available as of May 20, 2024. These datasets are at beta maturity, meaning the product is minimally validated but may still contain significant errors; it is based on product quick looks using the initial calibration parameters. Because the products at this stage have minimal validation, users should refrain from making conclusive public statements regarding science and applications of the data products until a product is designated at the provisional validation status. Learn more about accessing the data here!
