  Resources for Supporting Your Students

As a TA, you may recognize that a student needs additional support. You may also benefit from support yourself, as a student or someone teaching students.

The Office of Student Assistance and Support (OSAS) is a primary resource to connect TAs and students to campus support. Their Faculty and Staff Resources can help you with topics like:

  • class attendance
  • when you are concerned about a student
  • disruptive classroom behavior
  • supporting student mental health
Visit OSAS to learn more, or connect with the Graduate and Professional Student Assistance Specialist, Elaine Goetz.

  AI Prompt Cookbook

How can AI help with your teaching? The AI Prompt Cookbook  from the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Mentoring explores “prompt engineering" — writing specific prompts and refinements to generate text or images in generative AI.

Use these recipes to help jump-start ideas during course preparation, deliver student-centered content and communication, design lesson plans and activities, and more.

  Examples of Teaching with AI

The L&S Instructional Design Collaborative talked with instructors across L&S and analyzed research to find out:
  • What do we know about student and instructor perspectives on Gen AI?
  • What adaptations to assignments have been successful for instructors and students in L&S?
See the examples and learn from their findings in this Design for Learning article, "Revise Assignments in Response to Generative AI."

Generative AI Tools at UW–Madison
