September Bright Spots Webinar

WI Autism Provider Association Advocacy Efforts

On Tuesday, September 21, 9:00-9:30am, Becky Thompson will discuss the efforts of the Wisconsin Autism Provider Association for a rate increase with Wisconsin Medicaid. Becky is the Director of Clinical Services at the Wisconsin Early Autism Project.

Ambassador Updates

COVID19 Response Grant Extended

AUCD and CDC are extending funding for the COVID19 Response Grant for 1 year.  The goals of the project are:
  • Maintain an Act Early Ambassador-led or co-led state/territory team that includes key early childhood programs and systems.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a work plan to expand efforts from two of the steps of early identification to all four steps, within at least one targeted system 
  • Promote resiliency skills and behaviors among families with young children, especially those within racial and ethnic communities disproportionally affected by COVID-19.

Learn the Signs. Act Early. Materials Available

The CDC still has copies of the Milestone Moments booklets (English and Spanish) in stock and organizations can order up to 500 copies of each.  They also Milestone Tracker App flyers available and organizations can order up to 10 (1 order equals 100 flyers).

An Act Early Network Quarterly Webinar

This quarter’s Act Early Network Webinar will highlight the work of pediatricians to integrate “Learn the Signs. Act Early.” resources and tools into their surveillance and screening practices within Federally Qualified Health Center settings. Federally Qualified Health Centers are community-based health providers that receive funds from the Human Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Health Center Program to provide primary care services in underserved areas.

The Black Side of Autism

Virtual workshop on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, 1:00-2:00pm CST

The Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs’ (AMCHP) State Public Health Autism Resource Center (SPHARC) is hosting “The Black Side of Autism” on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 1:00-2:00pm CST.
Maria Davis-Pierre, President & CEO of Autism in Black, will lead this informative and engaging workshop that looks at autism from a cultural perspective and addresses stigma around autism within the Black community. Workshop participants will: 
  • Learn the importance of cultural competence and the important role it plays in the Black disability community 
  • Gain knowledge on how your own biases and unknown ableist views may affect your work 
  • Learn how to have culturally responsible discussions with parents and educators
