New Features From Oracle Eloqua
The Eloqua we experience now is continuously growing and changing. Oracle improves and adjusts to keep pace with customer needs, other applications and technologies. New features are shared quarterly in “Releases.” Making time to learn the new Oracle Eloqua features can help you up your marketing game.  We summarize the Feb.‘22 set of updated features and what’s to come for the May ‘22 release.

Outbound SMS (Text) Messaging Campus Pilot
We are currently conducting a Short Message Service (SMS), a.k.a. “mobile texting” pilot to learn how best to apply this Eloqua feature to our campus needs.
Eloqua SMS supports a variety of use cases:
  • Lead Generation
  • Emergency Notifications
  • Personalization
  • Event Reminders and Registrations
  • Surveys and Polls

We are expanding our pilot to a few more groups this summer.  If all goes well, we will move forward with allowing more of you who are interested to have this feature enabled.

Eloqua Event Management Campus Pilot
Eloqua Event management simplifies the process of event registration communications and functions.

Also on the horizon, we are testing this feature for our campus needs. The Eloqua Events module will allow you to manage event invitations, registrations, and attendance. We are now running Eloqua Event pilots with three campus groups.

If your department  works with event registrations and you are manually managing the many communications and details they entail, you will love what Eloqua can help you do: create branded event invitations, event registration forms, registration emails, waitlist emails, reminder emails, and post-event emails, set attendance limits, manage wait lists, allow for invitees to “Add Event to Calendar” via iCal or .ics, and more!

Avoid this Email Error: Set “From” Address Correctly
We continue to have campus users inadvertently sending out emails with the incorrect sender email (a.k.a.“from” address).  Please remember to use the mail server designation: @explore.wisc.edu, on your outbound email.  You can add any name/wording you like before the @ symbol, but the @explore.wisc.edu suffix must follow.  And please also remember to set the reply-to address as something unique to your department or program so you can receive responses.

Marketing Automation Team Notes
New Home, New Team
Last January 2022 the Marketing Automation (MA) team moved from the Division of Continuing Studies to the Department of Information Technology. More than just migrating the few blocks from Park St. to Dayton St., this move matched us with our “other half,” the One Badger Constituent/Customer Relationship Management (CRM) team. Together we form Enterprise CRM and Engagement Solutions (ECES).

Monica Slater Joins the Team
Jim Padley and Ryan Schwenn welcome a third member to the MA team. Monica Slater joins the group after having been a marketing manager (using Eloqua) at the Wisconsin Union for six years and UC Berkeley for 10. She is now the Eloqua Application Administrator–Creative, focused on helping campus users apply Eloqua to their unique needs. In addition to offering onboarding and training support, Monica will help our users get the most out of what Eloqua has to offer.

Eloqua Function Issues: What To Do

On April 19, we had an outage that caused our campus users to be unable to log in to Eloqua in the morning hours.  While this is rare, this is a good time to reiterate best practice in the future.
