Explore Curricular Data with Tableau Visualizations
|
This Friday, December 8, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, Clare Huhn, DAPIR analyst, will showcase five workbooks that contain curricular information and discuss how they can be used to learn more about course offerings and outcomes and how UW–Madison students interact with courses.
This session is helpful for staff involved in instruction, assessment, program review, and curricular planning, though all are welcome to attend. No advance registration is required. Join the Teams Meeting on your computer or cell phone. If you do not automatically enter the meeting, select LA Community of Practice Meetings from the menu on the left to enter it.

New Video Tutorial Shows How to Slice and Dice Payroll Data
|
|
|
|
The Department Planning Profiles for Payroll visualization is updated with October 2023 data. Because the visualization's features have expanded and grown more complex, a new brief video tutorial teaches you how to navigate the visualization, including search and filter options that allow for analyzing the current year or examining trends over time.

Announcing the Big 10 Academic Alliance (BTAA) Data Visualization Championship
|
|
|
|
Students are provided a data set and asked to produce a data viz for submission, while faculty/staff may submit an existing viz that highlights UW–Madison or university projects. The BTAA Data Viz Championship provides additional details, including the student data set and potential research questions.
Entries must be received by 5:00 pm on Monday, January 22. Email them to dapir@provost.wisc.edu. The email must include:
- thumbnail image,
- title,
- short description, and
- publicly available URL.
From UW-Madison's submitted vizzes, DAPIR and campus leadership representatives will select one student and one faculty/staff data viz to represent UW–Madison at the virtual Data Viz Showcase on Friday, February 16, at 1 p.m.

The BTAA and UW-Madison will host other events throughout the 2024 Love Date Week from February 12 to 16. Love Data Week is a celebration of all things data that seeks to bring people together to share their experiences, learn best practices, and have some fun. More information will be coming in early January.

Institutional data is any information used by or for the university to conduct university business. Owned and governed by UW–Madison, institutional data is a critical shared resource. Examples of it include:
- student records,
- employee records,
- financial information, and
- facilities information.
