Welcome to the Badger Data Platform!

DAPIR is excited to introduce the Badger Data Platform, UW–Madison’s enterprise institutional data ecosystem. The Badger Data Platform provides a centralized, scalable, and flexible way to manage UW–Madison’s data.

Where can I get more information?

Visit DAPIR’s website to explore the new services, understand how data flows through the Badger Data Platform, and find KBs to help with requesting access and setup.

How will the Badger Data Platform help me?

The Badger Data Platform simplifies and expands data access. It:

  • Uses a unified security model, based on data governance domains. You can access the data you need with your single sign-on NetID.
  • Provides a location to analyze data from multiple warehouses, cloud applications, and systems in a single query.
  • Can grow with the university’s ever-changing data environment.

DAPIR introduces two new staff members

DAPIR's Institutional Research & Decision Support (IRDS) team welcomes two new staff members.

Kassie Bentzinger (BI Developer) began in mid-November, and Jonathan Hanes (Institutional Policy Analyst) starts today, Monday, December 1.

Read about their backgrounds and upcoming work projects.

Reminder: new institutional survey review process

Feedback from our campus community is essential for guiding activities across the institution, and surveys are often an effective way to collect that information. A clear coordination process for institutional surveys is important to support meaningful impact.

Learn more about the new process.

Do you understand your responsibilities about the institutional data you use?

Designed for all UW-Madison employees, Data@UW - Data Governance and Responsible Use, a 30-minute, self-paced module, shares crucial steps to maintain the security of our institution’s data.

Institutional data includes social security numbers, benefits elections, financial data, cybersecurity information, and student records. For many, Workday's implementation has increased access to this data.

Bucky’s Data Viz Challenge—a favorite part of Love Data Week.

Remember, entries are currently being accepted for Bucky's Data Viz Challenge. All entries must be received by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Bucky’s Data Viz Challenge provides a platform for UW–Madison students, faculty, and staff to showcase their creative data visualization skills.

Check out the information for our student contest and faculty and staff competition.

Learn with us at December's Badger Data Network session

In December, we will be joined by Adam Paulick, Associate Vice Chancellor & Executive Director for Enterprise Applications. Adam will introduce us to the Workday and Enterprise Solutions Team (WEST). WEST supports human resources, finance, and enterprise applications across the Universities of Wisconsin. They are responsible for maintaining and improving key tools — including Workday and ShopUW+ — that power the university’s administrative functions.
