Data Governance—Maximizing Impact
|
|
|
|
Data governance helps staff intentionally plan how we use, store, and access data at UW-Madison. It helps ensure that people can trust and appropriately use the data they encounter.
Data governance lets us maximize institutional data analysis and its impact on decision-making by:
- Standardizing vocabulary so we can understand each other
- Ensuring we are compliant with laws and regulations
- Deciding how we will hold ourselves accountable when there are gaps in regulations
- Providing a balance between data access needs and risk

Meet DAPIR’s New Associate Vice Provost
Join us in extending a warm welcome to Bethany Crowell, who joins DAPIR as an Associate Vice Provost.
During graduate school, Bethany's dedication to higher education began as a research assistant at Harry S Truman College in Chicago. She returned to Purdue, her alma mater, to start her full-time career. After a rewarding stint at the University of Utah, she has returned to Wisconsin, her home state, to lead DAPIR's institutional research and decision support team. Bethany shares, “One of my favorite things about institutional research is the amazing community of professionals. My colleagues in IR are generous with their time and ideas. I'm always learning something new.”
As a college basketball lover, game day, especially when Purdue and Wisconsin play each other, will be interesting for her. Welcome, Bethany!
