Annual First Destination Survey Results—May's Tableau visualization
|
This visualization shares the results of our campus-wide First Destination Survey administered to bachelor’s degree recipients at the time of graduation, asking about their immediate post-graduation plans.
Results can be filtered by school/college, major, and tuition residency. Data from 2016-17 through 2023-24 are currently available in the visualization. When looking at data for majors with fewer graduates, users may find it helpful to combine data from multiple academic years.
In addition to information about the overall plans of our bachelor’s degree recipients, you can:
- View the top employers of graduates.
- See the most common next institutions for those continuing their education.
- Discover the industries our graduates work in.
Who might use this visualization and why?
This visualization is available to all UW-Madison employees. Remember, you must be on the UW-Madison network or signed into WiscVPN to access the visualization.
School and college career centers use this information to create outcomes summaries for their current and prospective students to provide examples of what career and educational options their degree may prepare them for. One example of these summaries is the “What can you do with your major?” resources created by SuccessWorks at the College of Letters & Science.
Faculty and program staff may use it for program review or to understand students’ post-graduation outcomes and align programming and experiences with common outcomes.
Where does the data come from?
This data is based on responses to the First Destination Survey. The survey opens in the weeks leading up to graduation and closes six months after graduation.
If you have any questions about the visualization or the First Destination Survey, please contact Sara Lazenby.

Workday and the impact on institutional Tableau workbooks
|
|
|
|
DAPIR and campus partners are reviewing all institutional Tableau workbooks and the impact of Workday. Workbooks may transition to Workday reports, be rebuilt in Tableau, or retire.
In general,
- Dashboards with historical trend data will continue to exist in Tableau and will need to be rebuilt.
- Dashboards with operational data may be retired if the information is available via a Workday report. This includes many of UW-Madison’s compliance tracking dashboards.
Dashboards sourced with EPM or SFMart data or using the UDDS structure will be evaluated.

Two topics for May’s Badger Data Network: data privacy and the future of UW–Madison’s data warehouses
|
|
|
|
- The role of the Data Privacy and Transparency unit.
- How we are building our privacy program at UW-Madison.
- Data privacy laws and how they do or do not apply in the university context.
Then, Brad Sanders, DAPIR’s Director of Enterprise Data Management, discusses the transitions from legacy PeopleSoft warehousing (EPM/SFMRT) into future Workday warehousing (EAP), and how Madison's future platform will help make it easier to connect to data.

RADAR (Repository of Administrative Data and Reports), the one-stop central portal for exploring and locating UW-Madison’s administrative data and reports, has been updated to leverage Tableau’s tree map feature. A KB explains how to get the most out of RADAR. Remember, you must be on the campus network or logged into the campus VPN to access non-publicly available Tableau reports.
