  Supporting Students through Challenges

The end of the semester can be challenging for your students (and yourself). The Office of Student Assistance and Support provides Guides to help you navigate student absences, life events, academic complaints, and general concerns about how a student is doing.

  • Talking with Students
  • Absences from Class
  • Helping a Student with Anxiety
Refer a student you are concerned about and OSAS will connect them with resources. You can also access OSAS services for yourself. The Graduate & Professional Student Assistance Specialist Elaine Goetz is a great place to start.

  For Your Next Course

Streamline preparation and strengthen your course design with resources from the L&S Instructional Design Collaborative and the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Mentoring:

  • Course Planning and Design Tools
  • Making Your Syllabus More Inclusive
  • Inclusive Canvas Setup Guide
  • Pre-Semester Checklist

Apply for the L&S Peer Observation Program (POP)

  • Are you a seasoned instructor looking for someone outside of your department who can tell you how you are doing in the classroom?
  • Are you in your last year of teaching and preparing for your faculty interviews and teaching demos?
The Peer Observation Program (POP) enhances your effectiveness as a teacher right now. It also prepares you for your future career: jobs in academia and industry need people who can give and receive constructive feedback.

At POP, we team you up with a fellow participant with similar interests and teaching experiences for one observation, and then assign you an experienced TA and observer to offer personalized feedback tailored to your unique teaching goals. Apply by Jan 26 for the Spring 2026 cohort.
