The Great Lakes Rural Opioid Technical Assistance-Regional Center (ROTA-RC) is a multi-state collaboration of Cooperative Extension programs working to address mental health and substance use concerns in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. This six-state collaboration is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Learn to thrive, not just survive with your ongoing health conditions. Discover healthy ways to live with chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, and others. Find practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, discover better nutrition and exercise choices, understand treatment choices, and learn better ways to talk with your doctors and family about your health.
This 6-week virtual series begins January 10 and will take place each Wednesday through February 14 at 1–3:30pm CST.

Illinois Extension Program Spotlight
Vouchers for Ag Producers
The Illinois Agricultural Mental Health Voucher Program offers farm families access to certified mental health professionals at no cost. Eligible recipients, including those working in agriculture and immediate family members, can request three vouchers per application. The process is private, allowing you to choose email or mail voucher delivery. Telehealth options are available for remote sessions. The voucher program prioritizes confidentiality, and existing counseling relationships may be eligible through partnering providers. The program supports Illinois residents, while similar programs exist in Missouri, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Nebraska.

Farm stressors affect mental health of adults and adolescent children
Agriculture is a stressful occupation, and farmers face substantial mental health challenges. Research indicates they often experience higher levels of anxiety and depression compared to the general population, but less is known about the effects on their families. A new study from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign explores how economic stressors affect the mental health of U.S. farmers and their adolescent children.

Mark Sanders, LCSW, CADC is the Illinois project manager for the Great Lakes Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC), the Great Lakes Mental Health Technology Transfer Center (MHTTC), and the Great Lakes Prevention Technology Transfer Center (PTTC). An international speaker and consultant, Mark has received four lifetime achievement awards honoring his career dedicated to substance use and mental health prevention, treatment, and recovery.
Mark is also a champion for Recovery Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC) and was part of the team that launched a statewide ROSC Council system in Illinois.

Great Lakes Addiction, Mental Health, and Prevention Technology Transfer Centers
|
|
|
|
SAMHSA's Technology Transfer Center (TTC) program is comprised of three networks: the Addiction Technology Transfer Centers (ATTC), the Mental Health Technology Transfer Centers (MHTTC) and the Prevention Technology Transfer Centers (PTTC). Each network includes one National Coordinating Office and 10 Regional Centers aligned with the HHS regions. In the Great Lakes (HHS Region 5), the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Health Enhancement Systems Studies manages the Regional Centers for each TTC Network.
