Happy March! This month, we observe National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week, March 18–24. We also celebrate National Social Work Month, honoring the tireless efforts of social workers to improve lives in all our communities. In addition, March is Women's History Month, commemorating the countless contributions of women throughout history–like Jane Addams and her colleagues at Hull House in Chicago, who provided a range of services to people in need, laying the groundwork for modern social work practices. Read on for updates from the Great Lakes ROTA-RC and inspiring stories from across the region!

National conversations about health are no longer limited to a person’s physical well-being. Today, conversations recognize the importance of balancing physical and mental health needs. As we continue to talk about mental health more openly, it is helpful to understand what “mental health” means. Mental health includes a person’s thoughts, emotions, and how they experience the world around them. When a person’s mental health negatively affects their functioning, their symptoms can indicate the presence of a mental health disorder.
