Celebrating 100 Years of Limnology
UW–Madison is the birthplace of limnology, and this year we celebrated a major milestone. Trout Lake Station and the Center for Limnology commemorated 100 years by bringing together generations of Trout Lakers for an exciting weekend. From Fire to Flower
Fire plays an important role in shaping the wild beauty of the Biocore Prairie in UW–Madison’s Lakeshore Nature Preserve. Since 1997, students, staff and volunteers have worked to restore what were once agricultural fields near Picnic Point to a vibrant tall grass prairie. Prescribed burns have been used on campus as a tool to support land restoration efforts and research dating back to Aldo Leopold.

Night time at Memorial Union Terrace Lakeside Cinema
Catching a movie on the Terrace at Memorial Union is a quintessential Madison summer activity. The student-run event is put together by WUD Film, and this year’s summer coordinator is L&S’s own Emma Weishaar, a junior majoring in statistics and economics. She facilitates the movies that happen on the Terrace every Monday night. “Looking around and being out there with everybody, kind of enjoying something together, is such a fun communal experience,” Weishaar says.
