Wisconsin Pride, a groundbreaking documentary based on the research of R. Richard Wagner (History PhD, ’71), brings forward hidden LGBTQ+ stories. In telling histories of Two-Spirit people it draws upon the expertise of Kai Pyle, assistant professor of Gender and Women’s Studies and American Indian Studies. Ashley Brown, Allan H. Selig Chair in the History of Sport and Society, offers analysis of the life of George Poage, the first African American member of the UW-Madison track team and the first African American to win an Olympic medal. The film also tells the history of UW’s infamous gay purges of the post-WWII era. Stream Wisconsin Pride now at PBS Wisconsin.
