Professor Mike Wagner named William T. Evjue Distinguished Chair for the Wisconsin Idea

Mike was named the William T. Evjue Distinguished Chair for the Wisconsin Idea in recognition of his dedication advancing the Wisconsin Idea, which hold that the boundaries of the university are boundaries of the state and beyond. The Chair is a five-year appointment and includes and annual $75,000 award. Congratulations, Mike, on this well-deserved award! Read the full announcement here.

PhD student Elohim Monard Rivas receives summer PAship from the Elections Research Center.

Elohim was selected to receive summer Project Assistantship funding from the Elections Research Center for his collaborative project titled "Beyond the Ballot: Latino Perspectives on Trust, Truth, and Voting in Wisconsin." The award provides a 50% PS appointment for summer 2024. Congratulations, Elohim!

Celebrating our 2024 Alumni Award Winners

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication is excited to announce its winners of the 2024 Alumni Awards. This year’s impressive list of accomplished alumni includes a variety of careers in teaching, digital communications, restaurant management, sports coaching and broadcasting. They will be honored at a ceremony on April 26 along with our James L. Baughman Senior Achievement Award winners, Teaching Excellence Award and Leadership Award winners, and Terry Hynes Innovative Leadership winners.

Student Spotlight: Tyler Katzenberger

Tyler Katzenberger is a senior majoring in political science with certificates in public policy and digital media analytics, and on the reporting track. Tyler has interned with The Cap Times and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Capitol Bureau, and joined a special program with Google and Poynter as a Misinformation Student Fellow. His work has been featured in USA TODAY and PolitiFact. Learn more about Tyler at the links below.

May 6: Anthony Shadid Award for Journalism Ethics 2024 Award Ceremony

Join the Center for Journalism Ethics at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. on Monday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. to honor the 2024 winners of the Anthony Shadid Award for Journalism Ethics. This year's ceremony will feature a keynote conversation on journalism ethics with CNN's Manu Raju conducted by Katie Harbath, chief global affairs officer at Duco Experts. Register today.

May 10: Professional MA Portfolio Presentations

Join us on Friday, May 10 in the Nafziger Room from 9-11 a.m. to celebrate the achievements of Courtney Bingham, Kelly Holm, Noreen Sharif, Omar Waheed and Katrina Williams as they complete their master's degrees.

May 10: SJMC Graduation Celebration

Join us on Friday, May 10 at the Discovery Building from noon–2 p.m. for a celebration of our graduating undergraduate and graduate students. The event will include individual recognition of each graduate, a keynote speech from Pulitzer Prize-winning science journalist Deborah Blum (MA'82), Bucky Badger, professional photography and light refreshments.
