Multiple professors named to World's Top 2% Scientists lists

Professors Lucas Graves and Hernando Rojas were included in this year's Top 2% Influential/Top-Cited Scientists' List by Stanford University and Elsevier. In addition, professor Dhavan Shah and emeritus professors Sharon Dunwoody, Al Gunther, Robert Hawkins and Jack McLeod were included in the Top 2% Career-Long To Cited Scientists list. PhD student Eric Boansi Agyekum speaks at Urban League of Greater Madison

This past Wednesday, Eric spoke at the Urban League of Greater Madison as part of their monthly lecture series, Africa Talks. Eric spoke about "Detecting Misinformation: Patterns in Fact-Checking and Issue Selection in Ghana." Congratulations, Eric!
 

Publications

PhD student Laila Abbas publishes article in International Journal of Communication

Laila recently published an article titled "Woman, Life, Freedom”: A Visual Rhetoric Analysis of# MahsaAmini on X" in the International Journal of Communication. The paper examines the visual rhetoric and activism themes on #MahsaAmini through an analysis of 520 visual tweets. The findings show massive support for the women’s movement in Iran through a predominantly visual pro-movement slant, which highlights the role of emotional visual tweets in mobilization. PhD student Linjie Dai publishes article in Communication Theory

Linjie recently published an article titled "Affective (counter)publics as a critical concept: rethinking affective publics from the history of Chinese Americans in the Exclusion Era" in Communication Theory. The paper examines the concept of affective publics from the lens of Chinese American history. Read the full article.

Dec. 9: Ivan L. Preston Research Colloquium with Jennifer Pan

Jennifer Pan, Sir Robert Ho Tung Professor of Chinese Studies, Professor of Communication and Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University, will present her research, "China int he Global Information Ecosystem." The presentation will be held in the Nafziger Room (5055 Vilas) from noon–2 p.m. Lunch will be served at noon prior to the talk.

Dec. 9: Curb Magazine Launch Party

Celebrate the launch of the newest edition of Curb magazine, Curb: Blaze on Monday, December 9 from 6–8 p.m. at Tripp Commons in the Memorial Union.

Dec. 11: SJMC Winter Graduation Celebration

Celebrate our December 2024 graduates on Wednesday, December 11 from 11 a.m.–noon in the Nafziger Room (5055 Vilas). The celebration will include brief remarks from director Katy Culver, individual graduate recognition, snacks and plenty of photo opportunities.

Dec. 12: End of Semester Celebration

Join SJMC graduate students, faculty and staff for lunch from noon–1:30 p.m. in the Nafziger Room (5055 Vilas) to celebrate the end of another fantastic semester.
