PhD student Laila Abbas publishes new article in Women's Studies in Communication

Laila recently published an article titled "Digitized Narratives on# MahsaAmini: Constructing a Digital Transnational Feminist Movement on TikTok" in the Women's Studies in Communication journal. In the article, Laila explores the meanings reflected in the compulsory hijab narrative on TikTok during the "Woman, life, freedom" movement that took place in Iran in 2022. During this time, #MahsaAmini was a powerful discursive attempt to challenge the regime's hegemonic approach in forcing the hijab policy and people took to TikTok to protest and demand justice for Amini and the abolition of the morality police and hijab law.
