Senior Erin Gretzinger named WNA Collegiate Journalist of the Year
Erin was named the 2022 Collegiate Journalist of the Year by the Wisconsin Newspaper Association. Erin is currently an investigative reporting intern at Wisconsin Watch, a fellow at the Center for Journalism Ethics, and served as the 2021-22 editor-in-chief at the Badger Herald. After graduating this May, Erin will join
The Chronicle of Higher Education as a reporting fellow. Erin will be also be honored with a James L. Baughman Senior Achievement Award at our Alumni Awards Celebration on April 28.
JRR PA Librarian Andrew McDonnell accepts tenure-track position at University of Kentucky
Andrew has accepted a tenure-track position at the University of Kentucky as their Digital Archivist Librarian. As the Digital Archivist Librarian, Andrew will oversee digital curation efforts, especially in regard to born-digital accessioning and digital preservation. The position will also lead web and social media archiving initiatives using Archive-It and other tools. Congratulations, Andrew!
Nathan Kalmoe joins the Daily Cardinal Media Corporation Board
Nathan will join the Daily Cardinal Media Corporation Board and replace Herman Baumann, long-time board member and former board chair. This change went into effect on Wednesday, March 29. Nathan is a Daily Cardinal alumnus and the Executive Administrative Director of the Center for Communication and Civic Renewal. Congratulations, Nathan!
Chau Tong (PhD '21) accepts faculty position at University of Missouri
In August, Chau will start her new position as assistant professor in the School of Journalism at the MU Institute for Data Science and Informatics at the University of Missouri-Columbia. After earning her PhD from the SJMC, Chau has been working as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Department of Communication at Cornell University.
Professor Mike Wagner appears on CripesCast podcast with alum Charlie Berens ('09)
Mike appeared on the first live version of the CripesCast podcast with SJMC alum Charlie Berens. Mike and Charlie recorded the conversation, about the Wisconsin State Supreme Court election, at Comedy on State on Monday, March 27.

PhD candidate Omar Dumdum presents article at ISA annual convention
Omar presented his
recently published article during the annual convention of the International Studies Association (ISA) in Montréal, Québec, Canada on March 15–18. He was part of the panel comprising authors from the special issue of the journal
Global Perspectives on "The Future of Multilateralism and Global Development." Omar's paper, which was generously funded by the World Bank, is part of his larger dissertation project looking at the role of media and public opinion in making international organizations more transparent and accountable.

Patrick Johnson, PhD candidate at the University of Iowa, will present "The Search for Sustainable Practice: Imagining Better Futures for Queer Communities Through Media Literacy," on Thursday, April 6 from 4:30–6 p.m. The event will be held in-person in the Nafziger Conference Room (5055 Vilas Hall).
April 28: Alumni Awards Celebration
Please join us for an evening honoring our 2023 award winners. Celebrate the accomplishments of alumni and students receiving awards including the Distinguished Service Award, Ralph O. Nafziger Award, Harold L. Nelson Award, Sharon Dunwoody Award, Graduate Student Awards and James L. Baughman Senior Achievement Awards. The event will be held at the Gordon Dining and Events Center on Friday, April 28 at 7 p.m.
