PhD student Eric Boansi Agyekum wins 2024 African Studies Program Research Award

Eric was recently awarded UW-Madison's 2024 African Studies Program Research Award which is intended to support graduate student research or creative/artistic endeavors related to the study of Africa and the diaspora. The award comes with a $4,000 prize and an invitation to be part of the 2024-2025 Africa Talks lecture series. Congratulations, Eric!

Professor Sue Robinson receives additional $19,000 grant from Solutions Journalism Network

Sue received an additional $19,000 from Solutions Journalism Network to be added to her existing grant. This brings the total of the grant to $40,000 to support Sue's research work. Congratulations, Sue!

Professor Mike Wagner featured in the Guardian

Mike was recently featured in a Guardian article titled "These talkshow hosts once called Trump a bully and an idiot. Now, they’re his biggest defenders." In the article, Mike discusses the changing talk radio ecology in Wisconsin and how conservative talk show hosts who once opposed Trump are now embracing him. Read the full article.

April 5: 2024 CJE Conference – Journalism Ethics and the AI Challenge

The Center for Journalism Ethics is hosting its annual conference on Friday, April 5 online and in-person at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery (330 N. Orchard St.). Called “Journalism Ethics & the AI Challenge,” the conference will bring together news media professionals, media innovators, academics, students and the public to address the ethical dilemmas that AI poses to the practice of journalism. Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Julia Angwin will deliver a keynote address on the challenges of covering AI. Registration is now open and this event is free and open to the public.
