Correction: Five faculty members named to World's Lifetime/Career Top 2% Scientists' List

In a previous newsletter, we listed four faculty members that were named to Stanford University and Elsevier's World's Lifetime/Career Top 2% Scientists' List when in fact there are five faculty members named on this list. These five faculty members include Sharon Dunwoody, Albert Gunther, Robert Hawkins, Jack McLeod and Dhavan Shah. Congratulations to all!

Professor Doug McLeod's Creative Marketing Campaigns class field trip

In late October, J-Schoolers in Professor Doug McLeod's Creative Marketing Campaigns class took a field trip to the Village of Shorewood, Wisconsin to meet with UniverCity Alliance community partners and learn about the area. Students will get hands-on experience creating a creative marketing campaign and presenting it to the Village later this semester.

Nov. 10: Fall Board of Visitors (BOV) Meeting

BOV members will join several J-School faculty and staff members for their bi-annual meeting today, November 10 from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. The group will discuss the current state of the J-School and visions for its future.

Nov. 13: Sam Freedman Book Talk

The Center for Journalism Ethics will welcome CJE advisory board member Samuel G. Freedman to campus on Monday, November 13 from 5–7 p.m. at the Wisconsin Historical Society Auditorium to discuss his new book, Into the Bright Sunshine: Young Hubert Humphrey and the Fight for Civil Rights. Freedman will present his book and discuss his research from 5–6 p.m. with a reception and book signing to follow from 6–7 p.m.

Nov. 13: Emerging Scholars Series with Marlon Twyman II

Join us Monday, November 13 from 12:30–2 p.m. in the Nafziger Conference Room (5055 Vilas Hall) for our Emerging Scholars Series featuring Marlon Twyman, assistant professor at USC Annenberg. Twyman will present his research, "Examining Productivity and Competition in a Large Online Community for Data Science," which merges diverse perspectives from social networks, organizational behavior and computational social science to examine how teams, online communities and organization form and interact in the digital age.
