Associate professor Kathryn McGarr's book reviewed by The New York Times

Kathryn's book, City of Newsmen: Public Lies and Professional Secrets in Cold War Washington, was reviewed this week in The New York Times. Professor Sue Robinson's book featured as a major influencer in report from Agora Journalism Center

Sue's new book, How Journalists Engage: A theory of trust building, identities and care (2023, Oxford University Press), was prominently featured as a major influencer of a new report to come out of the Agora Journalism Center. The September 2023 report by Damian Radcliffe, Regina Lawrence, and Andrew DeVigal is titled "Redefining News: A Manifesto for Community-Centered Journalism." Congratulations, Sue!

Communications manager Kara Rheingans represents the J-School at L&S Communicators workshop

Earlier this week, Kara was invited to sit on a panel and present her strategies and tactics for the J-School Instagram account to a group of communicators within the College of Letters & Science. Her presentation focused on the emphasis of "places, faces and happenings of the J-School" on Instagram as well as how to determine when to post to the main feed and when to use stories. Way to go, Kara!

Oct. 23: MCRC Symposium: Computer Vision and Visual Communication

Join the Mass Communication Research Center in the Nafziger Room (5055 Vilas) on Monday, October 23 at Noon to hear from Yingdan Lu, assistant professor at Northwestern University, and Yilang Peng, assistant professor at the University of Georgia. Lu and Yeng will be presenting their research about computer vision models in communication and the usage of AI. Lunch will be served at noon before the talk.

Nov. 1: Communication Career Fair

The J-School is hosting a Communication Career Fair on Wednesday, November 1 from 3–6 p.m. at Gordon Dining and Event Center. Spots are still available for organizations looking to meet with students. Contact Pam Garcia-Rivera for more information.
