Associate professor Lindsay Palmer selected as nominee for a summer stipend with the National Endowment for the Humanities

Lindsay has been selected by the UW–Madison Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research OVCR as UW–Madison’s nominee for a 2025 summer stipend with the National Endowment for the Humanities. What this means is that Lindsay has been advanced to the national competition, but UW Madison will give her two months of summer salary whether or not she wins! Congratulations, Lindsay!

Professor Mike Wagner speaks to multiple news outlets and community groups about the presidential campaigns and debate

  • Mike spoke to Channel 3 about presidential debates and whether or not they matter.
  • Mike spoke to the CapTimes about Congressman Pocan's social media behavior.
  • Mike spoke to LiveNow on Fox about Donald Trump's traveling with a conspiracy theorist and other campaign issues.
  • Mike spoke to a Lifelong Learning group at UW–Parkside about partisan polarization and the election on Tuesday, September 10.
  • Mike spoke to the Hedberg Public Library in Janesville, Wisconsin about misinformation and politics on Tuesday, September 10.

PhD students Luhang Sun and Linjie Dai publish article in Feminist Media Studies

Luhang and Linjie recently published an article titled "Welcome to this Brave Bro’s World: the (Re)production of hegemonic masculinity in a Chinese manosphere" in Feminist Media Studies. In their article, they explore how state power, platform affordances and misogyny intertwine and reproduce hegemonic masculinity on a sports fandom platform in China. Read the full article.

PhD student Yiming Wang, alum Porismita Borah (PhD'10) and professor Mike Wagner publish article in Political Communication

Yiming, Porismita and Mike recently published an article titled "Does the Losing Side Lose the Democratic Faith? Partisan Media Flow and Democratic Values During the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election" in Political Communication. In their article, they examine the relationship between partisan media consumption and changes in democratic values during the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election. Read the full article.

Join us on Thursday, September 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Grainger Hall for an interactive lecture and Q&A with Manu Raju, CNN Anchor of Inside Politics Sunday and Chief Congressional Correspondent. He'll share an exclusive peek behind the curtain of what it's like to cover politics today and how he navigates challenging stories and events.

September 23: Ivan L. Preston Research Colloquium with Jasmine McNealy

Join us on Monday, September 23 at noon in the Nafziger Room (5055 Vilas) for a talk by Jasmine McNealy, professor at the University of Florida and Faculty Associate with Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard. Her talk, "Bring the Noise: Building a Framework for Sonic Privacy in the Age of AI," will how policy change surrounding AI can better protect us and mitigate harm. Lunch will be served at noon, before the start of the talk.
