As we pass the one-year mark of the global pandemic, I want to take a moment to recognize all of our students, faculty, staff and alumni. Throughout this difficult time, the J-School community has been able to adapt and come together to support one another in different and creative ways. Though it has been challenging, it has not stopped our department from shining in different ways, a number of which you can read about in this newsletter. Looking ahead to the final weeks of the semester, I want to encourage all of our alumni to continue supporting the J-School, especially during the upcoming Day of the Badger event. Ph.D. student Yiping Xia, was recently awarded a Mini Fellowship from UW-Madison’s Holtz Center for Science and Technology Studies. We caught up with Yiping to hear more about him and what he hopes to do after graduation.
