A Message from J-School Director Kathleen Bartzen Culver
Greetings from the J-School! The beginning of the fall semester is one of my favorite times of the year as we welcome new and returning J-Schoolers back to Vilas. This year, in addition to our hardworking students, our department has had the pleasure of welcoming three new faculty members to our ranks. Jing Wang joins us as an assistant professor and will teach courses on race and ethnicity in the media, as well as Introduction to Mass Communication and graduate seminars. Miya Williams Fayne joins us as an Anna Julia Cooper Fellow and will spend this year conducting research on the Black press in the new media age. She will begin teaching in Fall 2024. Adam Schrager, who is a familiar face around Vilas and has taught several courses for us over the years, has joined our team as teaching faculty and will teach courses in video journalism. We pride ourselves on our innovative and collaborative faculty, and I am thrilled to welcome Jing, Miya and Adam to campus. I cannot wait to see the impact they make within our J-School community and beyond.
On, Wisconsin!

Emeritus Professor James Hoyt Leads Charge to Induct Alum Bob Teague into UW Athletic Hall of Fame
Emeritus Professor James Hoyt was curious why J-School alum Bob Teague (BA'50) had not been recognized by UW Athletics for his accomplishments on the football team. Hoyt's curiosity paid off when Teague was finally inducted on Friday, September 15.
Ph.D. student Lynne Cotter recently received the Top Post Award from the AEJMC Communicating Science, Health, Environment and Risk (ComSHER) Division for her research exploring flu vaccination promotion to the elderly.
We are so proud of what our alumni go on to accomplish once they leave Vilas, and we want to brag about it to current J-School students and visitors. Please submit this form to be highlighted on one of the screens in our 5th-floor lobby.
