April 2026
While animals don’t rule the world (yet), they certainly do hold an important place in our lives and hearts. Each year, we celebrate Pet Week in their honor. During the first week of May (May 3-9), we hope you’ll consider making a gift to support the work we do to improve health and wellbeing for pets and the people who love them – in Wisconsin and all around the world.  Your generosity supports:

  • Groundbreaking clinical research and discoveries that improve diagnostic and treatment options for both animals and humans — helping save lives.
  • Exceptional training for the veterinarians and scientists of tomorrow, ensuring expert care for generations of pets, wildlife, and livestock.
  • Unmatched, unwavering compassionate care — in more than 20 specialty service areas — for nearly 30,000 patient visits each year at UW Veterinary Care.
Honor the animals you love and help us create the future of veterinary medicine right here at UW-Madison by supporting Pet Week 2026.

Wanted: Healthy dogs for study investigating vision and sense of smell
UW Veterinary Care Clinical Studies and the Mowat Lab are seeking participants for a study investigating vision and sense of smell in healthy dogs.

Dogs ages 1.5 to 8 years old are eligible for the study. Participants will visit UW Veterinary Care for a brief veterinary exam. They will also be shown tennis balls both in real life and on TV and may be asked to smell different scents.

Participating owners will be asked to fill out a questionnaire about their dog’s behavior and may be invited to fill out a separate questionnaire about sleep patterns.

To enroll in the study, please fill out an initial survey here. Questions? Email clinicalstudies@vetmed.wisc.edu or call 608-890-3484.

“Coconut had a long day today as we popped up to @uwvetmed for an appointment with an internal medicine specialist! …

Apparently she sneezed a bunch of mucus into a technician’s face during her blood draw. So they got a taste of life with a cleftie and they also have my sympathies.🫣” – marigoldkittencrew on Instagram
“On January 15th, Gert had a big day! It’s also the day I feel like everything started coming together for her! She started by visiting internal medicine for her ACTH Stim, then hooked up with Ortho to be sure her new braces fit correctly, and then hopped over to physical therapy where we had our initial “get to know you” appointment and assessment- and Gert was assigned her first exercises. I need to take a moment to express how amazing the various departments at @uwvetmed were in helping Gert get all her appointments scheduled that day so she could get the best care possible and we could do it all in one trip 💕” – teamgert on Instagram
