Rock River Coalition seeks an enthusiastic, detail-oriented person with a strong understanding of both science. The outreach and communications specialist will collaborate with Rock River Coalition staff to develop and implement communications plans, strategies, and materials aimed at enhancing engagement with our mission and will lead a range of events, both in person and virtual with a particular focus on urban forestry. Application review begins on May 18, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that the organization is managed effectively to achieve its mission. This is a remote position which will be based out of a home office, but must be located within the State of Wisconsin. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Initial applications will be reviewed May 15th.

This position is responsible for the statewide coordinating and implementing the DNR’s statutory responsibilities to inventory Wisconsin’s water quantity resources, including springs, lakes, streams, and groundwater, as part of the Great Lakes Compact. The role leads the collection, management and analysis of field data, coordination with department staff, and working with nonprofits and government agencies and institutions. The specialist will coordinate the monitoring strategy while working directly with private and public landowners and state and federal agencies and institutions to gather water quantity data.

The Conservation Specialist provides customer service, technical and professional assistance concerning the implementation of soil and water conservation practices through a variety of Federal, State and local programs. Works directly with farmers, landowners, and conservation partners to implement soil health and agronomic best management practices that improve soil productivity, reduce erosion, and enhance water quality. Position open until filled. Posting started Apr. 7.

This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position with an expected start date sometime in June 2025. The Specialist’s role is to lead the development, implementation and maintenance of systems related to the engagement and tracking of Clean Lakes Alliance constituents. This position supports annual campaign operations, maintains donor databases, analyzes donor-engagement metrics, and supports the Executive Director and Advancement Director with development initiatives. This intern will work closely with the co-chairs of the NALMS ECO Committee as well as with the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Program Intern to survey early career NALMS members about their needs and interests, develop a three-episode webinar series to launch in September 2025, and market the webinar series to early career professionals, including both current and prospective NALMS members. Start and End Dates: Mid-June through mid-November, 2025; schedule is flexible Total Hours: Approximately half time for a total of 225 hours Apply By May 15, 2025

This intern will work closely with the co-chairs of the NALMS JEDI Program as well as with Education, Communication, and Outreach (ECO) to develop communications resources and a webinar series targeting Spanish speaking lake users and managers. The intern will use established relationships with NALMS members to determine the messaging that is most impactful and beneficial to the target audience. Join the two-week summer DAM Crew and learn professional skills for monitoring the impacts of dam removal on the Kinnickinnic River. UW-River Falls is hiring up to 12 students from any Universities of Wisconsin campus to work on the fourth annual DAM Crew. You will work alongside experts from Inter-Fluve and Trout Unlimited. The summer DAM Crew is a free, non-credit experience provided through the Freshwater Collaborative. Funds are available for food, travel expenses and campus housing. Apply by May 20.

The Community Engagement Preparation Grad Hourly supports the preparation of UW students and staff to work with the community as part of both academic and co-curricular community-based initiatives by coordinating the community engagement preparation curriculum through both in-person (i.e. workshops) and virtual (i.e. online training modules) formats, as well as designing and coordinating related events. This position oversees a team of two undergraduate interns who support workshop facilitation and undergraduate engagement. This is a graduate student position at UW-Madison. Apply by May 26, at 11:59 pm CST.

A typical day will include driving to sampling sites throughout Dane County, transporting samples to the laboratory, setting up tests, and reporting results. Position open until filled.

CUAHSI's Hydroinformatics Innovation Fellowship program enables scientists to create and share a hydroinformatics product with the CUAHSI community. This fellowship supports projects that result in a product that can be shared within one year of funding. Scientists at U.S. universities and colleges are eligible for this grant. CUAHSI will consider proposals that request funding up to $5,000. Applications will close on Wednesday, May 21 at 11:59pm ET.

CUAHSI’s Instrumentation Discovery Travel Grant (IDTG) program enables scientists to learn the details of hydrologic instrument installation, operation, maintenance, and data processing by visiting experts or scheduling reverse site visits. Applicants from traditionally under-served institutions, primarily undergraduate institutions, students at all levels, and early career faculty are encouraged to apply for an IDTG. CUAHSI offers up to $2,000 to help cover travel expenses for students or scientists at U.S. universities and colleges to visit colleagues with specific instrumentation expertise. Applications will close on Wednesday, May 21 at 11:59pm ET.

Join us for our 3rd annual Kids Fishing Day at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary (1660 East Shore Drive, Green Bay, WI) on May 17th from 9 AM to 12 PM. We will have Backyard Bass, fishing, and the always popular live sea lamprey tank. No registration is required and equipment is provided. Free and for children age 15 and under.

During Free Fishing Weekend, all Wisconsin waters are open to residents and non-residents to fish without a license or trout or salmon stamp. However, organizations hosting free fishing events should note that all fishing regulations, including size and bag limits and species restrictions, will be enforced. June 7-8 is also Free Fun Weekend, so state park admission fees and trail passes are waived, too.
Organizations are invited to register their events with the DNR for additional promotion to the public. After registering, organizations can request materials to hand out at their events. The deadline to register events is May 29

Loop the Lake is an at-your-own-pace bike ride around Lake Monona that raises funds to protect and preserve Greater Madison’s lakes. Make a day of it while you enjoy entertaining and educational activities at many parks along the route.

Make your grand entrance to the Marquette Neighborhood Association’s Waterfront Festival by floating with hundreds of other fools from Tenney Park to Yahara Place Park on the Yahara River in Madison, Wisconsin. Bring your own boat (sorry, no innertubes), PFDs, costumes and decorations. This is a free, rain-or-shine event. Parking/load-in begins at 9:30 a.m. Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. Register by June 12 to be entered to win a River Alliance t-shirt.

July has been Lakes Appreciation Month for the past 27 years. To help us celebrate, appreciate, and bring attention to lakes, we are inviting elementary, middle, and high school students to submit posters reflecting on how important lakes are to all of us. Submitted artwork will be a big part of NALMS’ celebrations through July across North America. Submissions are due Jun 20.

Energy Nexus, an interdisciplinary journal that covers the deep, broad, meaningful convergence between energy, water, and agriculture. This special issue seeks to publish new research and innovative industrial case studies on pumped-storage technologies and developments. Manuscripts will be due by 30 July 2025. From April or May to October, our 200+ volunteer stream monitors collect monthly data about the health of our streams across the Rock River Basin. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and various county Land and Water Conservation Departments use the data to better understand watershed protection and restoration needs. Want to help protect a stream near you? Consider attending one of our hands-on training workshops. Anyone interested in volunteering or just learning more is welcome. By the end of the workshop, you’ll know how to measure water quality and be ready to adopt your own stream monitoring site. No experience or equipment needed!
